Comfort scores, route simulation, navigation and the detailed chart all work anywhere a boat meets the sea. This page is the chart itself: what it holds, which layers you switch on, and the open data every depth and forecast is built from.
On the map
Everything the map holds.
It is all on the chart today — what the map draws for you, and what you decide to put on top of it.
What the map shows you
- Depth bands, contours and soundings, with the tide applied where tides matter
- Seamarks and lights, written the way a chart writes them: Fl(2)R.10s7m8M
- Terrain contours and hillshading, so you know an island by its silhouette
- Your route, with its waypoints, the ETA and the comfort score along it
- The boat’s own position, with the sea state and the depth under it
- Distance to the nearest shore, and the fuel docks near your track

Where the data comes from
Every number has a source.
Forecasts reach 10 days ahead and refresh every 2 hours. These are the models underneath them; the full attribution is in the footer of every page.

The honest part
What the data cannot tell you.
The chart and the forecast are both models of the sea rather than measurements of it. It is worth knowing where the edges are.
- Depths are modelled averages, not a survey of your bay. Between soundings the model fills the gaps, and a rock the survey missed is missing here too.
- An empty-looking bay is not an empty bay. The chart draws what the model can resolve, and a rock or a shoal finer than that is simply not drawn.
- Forecasts are model output, not a promise. Uncertainty grows with every day ahead, and local effects such as gusts off a mountain or a squall line are not fully captured.
- Seamarks, anchorages and shore amenities come from open data. They can be out of date, or missing altogether.
Always trust your echo sounder over the app.
Found something missing?
Most place data comes from OpenStreetMap, so a fix there reaches everyone who uses it and not only Bonasea. In the priority regions we do curated additions ourselves. Tell us what is wrong and where, and we will look at it.
